No one really enjoys cleaning the toilet. I know I don’t. It’s even more fun when men or boys live in your home. You probably know what I’m talking about so I will just leave it at that. In any case, I cant stand the harsh commercial cleaners available on the market. They often contain bleach and I have a low tolerance for the way bleach smells. I have tried many things over the years in order to clean my toilet and this mixture that I made is one of the most effective and greatest smelling ones I have made so far. Plus, who doesn’t love a little fizzing in their life? This may even make it fun for your kids to clean the toilet. Probably not, but one can hope.

DIY Fizzing Peppermint Toilet Powder- This easy to make DIY Fizzing Peppermint Toilet Powder will get your toilet sparkling clean and take just 5 minutes to make!

DIY Fizzing Peppermint Toilet Powder

This recipe makes approximately 2 cups of cleaner and I find this amount is enough for 2-3 months with weekly cleanings of two bathrooms. I like to also rinse after using it with Listerine (yes, the classic brown kind!) to really disinfect and shine my bowl. It’s not necessary, because lavender has some antibacterial properties, but I have been doing it for years, so it’s just kind of habit now.

To make DIY Fizzing Peppermint Toilet Powder you will need:

1 1/2 Cups Baking Soda

1/3 Cup Citric Acid

10 Drops Lavender Essential Oil

10 Drops Peppermint Essential Oil

Place the baking soda into a medium sized bowl. On one half, place the essential oils. On the other half, put your citric acid. It is important that you not drop your essential oils on top of your citric acid or you will activate the fizzing and ruin your batch. You can also just mix the citric acid in well before you add the essential oils but that can still be hard to make sure you don’t get it wet.

With a fork, mix the essential oils into the baking soda side and then incorporate it all together. Place your mixture into a moisture-proof container. I recommend not storing it in the bathroom because of the moisture in the air. Label it so no one uses it for anything else and keep out of reach of pets and kids.

To use, simply use a teaspoon and scoop out 1-2 spoonfuls and drop into your toilet. Scrub it around and flush.
